CPM courses contain substantially the same topics as the same traditional courses and texts. CPM students learn basic facts and procedures, develop the understanding and ability to use them in new and challenging problems, and acquire problem solving strategies. Students have several opportunities to learn an idea and to practice it over several weeks and months (distributive practice).
