Do counselors meet with each freshman?

A. Early in the fall, counselors will visit in small groups with students on their caseload. During the small groups, counselors will help the students design four-year academic plans and will discuss future opportunities at MMU. Graduation requirements, courses needed for college, and technical center options are also discussed. Through these discussions, counselors are able to establish an initial contact to open the door for future communication. We welcome students in the Student Services Office and encourage them to set up appointments with their counselor. Over the course of the first semester, the counselors will meet individually with all of their 9th graders (this is assuming the student is willing!). Should parents have any concerns about their student, we encourage a call to our office so we may help. In particular, if you believe it would be beneficial for your student to meet with the school counselor sooner than later, let us know so we may accommodate you.
