That is correct. Within one year of employment, COs are required to attend a basic academy that is governed by the NY State Commission of Corrections. This is a 4-week program, and we administer it here at the facility. They are also required to go through a 6-week OJT-on the job training-where they are literally assigned to each and every position, each and every shift, to understand the overall working operation.
