Allegedly, but that is like waiting for the turning of the seasons… Cut the tree down, leaving the stump about knee-high off the ground. Get a good powerful electric drill, and with a good wide bit, perhaps 20 or 25mm, drill into it to try to form a hollow “cup”. When you have one worth calling a cup, pour in either white spirit or petrol, slowly. Let it soak in for a few hours, or better yet repeat this a few times over a few days. Now wrap an old cloth over it, add a little white spirit, and light it with a long burning stick, at a safe distance. Perform a safe, controlled burn, with a bucket of water on standby. The petrol or white spirit will have got some way into the trunk, towards the roots, and the intense heat will cook the trees’ tissues, cauterizing them to prevent any new growth, above or below ground.
