Do common plecos eat live plants?
Common Plecos will absolutely devour plants… There are, however, more delicate species like Bushynose Plecos which generally avoid live plants, as well as SIAMESE Algae Eaters, Farlowella Catfish and Otos, or Guppies, Mollies, or Florida Flag Fish for hair algae. EDIT: The dying plants are not likely a sign that the Pleco was eating them, but I was answering the original question; yes, Common Plecos will eat plants. What species of plants do you have? Some can be grown with little or no care, while others require a LOT of light and nutrients. EDIT 2: It is possible that the Pleco is giving “plant hickeys”… Try feeding it fresh veggies like cucumber, zucchini, and blanched lettuce as often as possible to curb its appetite.
