No they do not have any automatic rights under the laws of intestacy. But they may still be able to make a claim against the estate if they were financially dependent on the person who died or meet the conditions of being a cohabitant under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, the Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 or the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) (Northern Ireland) Order 1979.
