Do college basketball players tryout for that particular college instead of being recruited?
If you are a walk-on you go through try-outs but players that get scholarships before going to the school get recruited. If you are not recruited by a school you want but get in through admissions you could take the chance and risk trying-out as a walk on and potentially getting a scholarship or just being on the team at the school you want.
