Do cigarettes sold in Florida have the fire safe filter and stuff?
A law was enacted here in FL 2008 that by Jan 2010 all cigarettes have to be “fire safe.” Cigarettes right now are still good, however. There have been a lot of health/taste/overall satisfaction complaints with the new fire safe cigarettes, particularly with certain chemicals used to bind the layers of paper together which provide the flame retardant effect. If you’re a Florida smoker, I suggest writing in to your rep about your concern with the safety and desirability of only selling these “fire safe” cigarettes as opposed to say, selling “fire safe” cigarettes and normal cigarettes and allowing consumers to choose for themselves. Deaths attributed per year to burning cigarettes is roughly 800, to give a scope of the minimality of this supposed threat 724,269 die yearly due to heart disease, the spike in which is largely attributable to the fast food culture and the extinction of home cooked meals. Priorities need to be set a little more logically.
