Do christians celebrate halloween.?
It depends. It means the evening of All Hallows, which is a Christian festival the day after (aka All Saints Day). It’s still a big thing in Catholic countries like France. As everyone knows, Halloween is based on a pagan festival but so is Easter! I think years ago the idea would be you can celebrate it if you go to church the following day. Of course some Christians think anything that’s fun is evil… Not that I actually like Halloween myself.
Growing up, I never knew any Christian who didn’t celebrate Halloween (except a friend who was Jehovah’s Witness, but they don’t celebrate any holidays). The idea that it is a Satanic holiday is just silly nonsense that became popular in the 1970’s when some extremists began to spread this falsehood. There is no actual evidence to support the idea that Halloween is the devil’s holiday and my parents’ generation had never heard of such a thing. When I was a kid it was the norm for churches to hold Halloween parties (not harvest parties). In fact, although Halloween has been dominated by folk customs, Hollywood, and in Ireland by pre-Christian customs (you have probably heard of Samhain), it actually began as a Catholic holiday. All Hallows Eve means All Saints Eve because it is the night before All Saints Day. All Souls Day, November 2, is a Catholic day to honor the dead and the source of Halloween’s connection to death.
