Chinchillas have little to no smell although as they get older their urine may have a stronger odour. Of course, all animals will smell if they have dirty accommodation or lack of bathing. Keep the cage clean and allow your chinchilla access to a sand bath. Some chinchillas like to be groomed, using a small nit comb and this will also help them smell fresh.
