Do children get stuck with the character names, e.g. always referring to m as Munching Mike but failing to learn the letter sound?
Teachers who say that their children get stuck on the names have usually only taught Letterland from the ABC Book without using the Teacher’s Guide. They may not be aware of the ‘Quick Dash’ routine, songs, role play, and many suggestions for playing with alliterative words that provide ample insurance that children move quickly to the letter sound. Less able children with general learning difficulties will need the most focus on the sounds.
