Do Characteristics of the Built Environment Correlate with Bus Stop Crime?
by Robin Liggett, Anastasia Loukaltou-Sideris, and Hiroyuki Iseki, University of California Transportation Center, UCB This study performed a series of regression models generated from Los Angeles crime data to assess predictors of bus stop crime. The 2001 report builds on previous studies that distinguished environmental indicators of bus stop crime. Rather than identifying indicators, this study focuses on identifying predictors of the elements that contribute to bus stop crime. The results find that bus stops with good visibility and high pedestrian activity leads to lower crime rates, regardless of neighborhood. Download Bus Stop-Environmental Connection in PDF format.
