Do certain operating systems suit specific tasks/jobs?
Short answer is yes. But sometimes the answer is more that some people prefer certain operating systems. In most admin. type jobs they will use Windows, just because more people know it – not because it’s necessarily the best platform for doing the job. Whereas if your going to have an Oracle database server people prefer to use Linux as this is Oracles preferred platform. There are technical reasons why sometimes operating system A is better than B, but personally I don’t think they usually make enough of a difference to make someone use an operating system they don’t like to use.
