Do cautions show up on CRB checks when applying for medicine at university (UK)?
yes they do because when you apply to medical school, usually when you go to the interview they will ask you to fill out CRB enhanced disclosure forms. What will then happen is if they give you a place they will send the forms off to CRB who will process them within about 6 weeks. You will then get a sort of certificate style document back (as will the medical school) which details what exactly is on your record. Thats not the end of it though, what will then happen is you will go before a comittee who will decide if that conviction represents what we call a ‘fitness to practise’ issue. All British doctors AND medical students must be “fit to practise”. Some cautions like drunk and disorderly are fairly easy to explain away with tales of youthful folley and how your ‘all better’ now. But assualt will be hard, you deliberately engaged in a physical altercation another human being with the intent of causing harm, can you see why that might represent a problem for ‘fitness to practise?
