Do Cats use the same kitty litter?
One litter box will be more than enough for two cats provided it is at least 20″x30″x6″ However, you must introduce the cat and the kitten properly if you are to stand a good chance of them getting along well and you will need a temporary litter box while you do that. You can take a cardboard box about 20″ x 30″ x 4″ and put it in a large trash bag to make a temporary box. Push the trash bag into the corners of the box and pour in enough litter to come within about 1″ or so of the top of the box. Once you have introduced the kitten ot the cat, you can leave the temporary litter box in place and show the kitten where the other litter box is located. Once you are sure the kitten is using the regular litter box, take up and throw away the temporary litter box. We have never had a problem with a new kitten or cat finding the regular litter box after we remove the temporary box.
