Do cats really say words when they communicate?

No you are not going mad, cats really do communicate in tones, it’s almost like they’re human. My cat really talks to me whenever she is hungry or just bored.

I don’t think they are saying words, they have different tones and you can tell stuff from their body language. I never noticed my cat have different meows that much, but few if them are slightly different. She meows to say hello when she comes in to the house or when I come home, she meows a bit when she wants some food, she does these meows like she calling for someone sometimes and they sound quite different from other meows, she hisses or does screaming meows at other cats, she does this little tiny meow when she is laying down and I stroke her for the first time and sometimes she just looks up at me and meows like she is talking to me, but I don’t understand what she’s saying, I think she just wants to be fussed, it’s really cute.

Though their main form of communciation is body language, it is said that cats can make up to 100 different sounds, so it makes sense that they use certain ones for specific reasons. When you think about it, there are lots of different cat noises; * Kittens and mother cats calling for each other. * The caterwauling that tom cats make when squaring up for a fight, or when they’re after a female. * Hissing or growling. * Purring * Meowing as a form of greeting. * Meowing when they want feeding or attention. * Meowing when they want to go outside. I’ve posted a link to a website that contains some really interesting information about cat chat and how it can be interpreted.
