Do cats need to be vaccinated for the rest of their life?
No, the vaccines likely haven’t caused the problem. It sounds like an infection… if it becomes chronic it may be a viral infection, Feline Leukemia or FIV, or a growth in the sinus cavity, or something else. Here’s what we recommend at my clinic. Cats should be vaccinated as kittens (roughly at 9 weeks, and 12 weeks for Rhinotracheitis, Panleukopenia, Calici Virus and Feline Leukemia. At 12 weeks for Rabies. Again for all of those at 1 year and then every 3 years after that. Indoor ONLY cats may be able to extend their vaccines beyond 3 years once they have had their first 2 sets of vaccines because they are not exposed as much. Once cats have had several vaccines or are very old or ill, we don’t continue to vaccinate them. The immunity is not boostered each year, but the immunity does wear off after a while. Depending on what research you look at, the immunity from the vaccines can last anywhere from 3 to 10 years. We aren’t quite ready to say every cat can stop being vaccinated bec
