Do casual dress codes improve workplace morale?
This was selected as Best Answer A casual dress code by itself will not provide more than a marginal improvement in morale. If the casual dress code is indicative of the employees having greater freedom in making day to day choices at work, then I’d say its one of many aspects of the culture of the company that promotes a good work environment. As a former consultant who has worked in numerous companies, I can tell you that some of the worst places for morale I’ve seen have been companies who happen to have a casual dress code. The primary reason for low morale was that the employees felt they were not able to affect change due to what you might call micro-management. Employees need to feel like they can have a positive impact on their company, even if its a small one. They also need to be able to make job role appropriate decisions. And not just on what they wear each day.
