Do bulletproof vests really expire?
Yes, they do expire according to the manufacturer. The makers put a shelf life on their product. The train of thought as to why they do this is for liability reasons and profit. If someone is wearing an old vest and it fails then the maker has some legal protection because the vest is past it’s expiration date. Also, if departments bought vests and never had to replace them (because they don’t expire for example) then the makers would not make as much money. So yes they do expire. Do they work past their expiration date…………even better question. That would depend on a number of factors. How the vest was treated in the past, possibly it’s age, wear and tear, etc. I have seen pretty old body armor (well past it’s expiration date) stop bullets. Would I be all excited to wear body armor that was expired, no. Would I be even less thrilled to go on patrol with no body armor, of course. I would never work without body armor. I don’t think I would work for an agency that did not care en
