Do British people use imperial or metric measurements?
Speed limits are in MPH, distances are in miles. However, children are taught metric at school and have been exclusively since 1974. Since only three countries worldwide don’t uses the metric system at all it makes sense to use the metric system especially since the imperial system in the USA differs in some way from the original Imperial system that the UK used to use e.g An American pint/gallon is smaller than the British pint/gallon because an American pint is 16 fl.oz a British pint is 20 fl.oz. There is also the fact that the metric system is decimal which is far, far simpler than the old Imperial system, even my parents who were taught it can’t tell me how many feet (or yards) are in a mile but everybody I know can tell me how many metres are in a kilometre. All prices on produce now have to include the price in grams/kilograms but not necessarily in pounds and ounces (although dual pricing is legal).
