Do breeders of pedigreed cats add to the problem of stray cats, cats in shelters, etc.?

No, not in my opinion. Very rarely will you find a well-bred pedigreed cat in a shelter. I also don’t think pedigreed cats fill up homes that would be available to stray or abandoned cats as is frequently said by those opposed to breeding pedigreed cats. Most folks who want a specific breed of cat will not have anything other than exactly the breed they have fallen in love with. Additionally, 10% of all Kittiary kitten sales are donated to feline rescue groups so we do more to prevent and help with rescuing cats then most people do. To quote Niels C. Pedersen, DVM, PhD, Professor of Veterinary Medicine at U.C., Davis, “if all recognized breeds were to disappear, it would not only be a great loss but would not begin to affect the circumstances created by a lack of caring and knowledge on the part of those who don’t place significant value on cats.
