Do Braxton Hicks (practice) contractions feel like period pains?
Yes, and these sound similar to the real contractions you’re going to be getting so pay attention to these as these can soon become a sign of true labor. What is sounds like is that your cervix is probably beginning to soften and may be even opening up (dilating) a little. This may or may not be an indication of pre-term labor (although you are getting far enough along to where baby’s are developing to breathe on thier own but it doesn’t mean the lungs are mature enough yet.) Either way, you want baby to stay put as long as possible. **Let your doctor know about these at your next appointment. S/He may want to check you vaginally to see if there is cervical progress for beginning stage of labor. They will decide if there is risk of early labor or not – they’ll let you know what to do.** Good luck to you, mom, and congratulations!
