Do both revenues and gains increase both net income and stockholders equity?
Not necessarily. Lots of variables can influence net income. Marginal revenue in excess of deductions obviously will increase net income, but not necessarily shareholder equity because, for example, you could pay a dividend that would offset any equity bump. Gains are similar in that they reduce equity to the extent of basis in the asset disposed of while the net gain on the asset disposition could get swallowed up in other accounts, which would keep the gain from ever showing up as either net income or additional equity.
