Do Birmans require more care, and do they loose a lot of hair because they are long-haired?

The Birman is not long-haired but semi-long-haired. There is a considerable difference between these types of cats. In contrast to long-haired cats semi-long-haired cats do not have short, fine hair immediately on their skin. This is the kind of fur that is primarily lost and gets matted. Birmans only loose a considerable amount of hair during the change of the fur. Otherwise the loss is neglegible. Our cat Filou lost hair every time he was petted. You could always see where he had taken a rest. This is completely different with Birmans.
