Dura-Foam roofs that follow our recommended coating upgrade guidelines maintain such a tough coating layer that birds do not peck at them. Bird pecking is rare on Dura-Foam roofs and usually only occurs on roofs that are way overdue for a re-coat. When the coating layer wears thin, birds are able to peck at weak areas in the coating and reveal the underlying polyurethane foam. Birds always cease to peck after these roofs are re-coated. Damaged areas do not leak unless the thick Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) layer is completely penetrated. Also, bird pecks are easily repaired with a polyurethane sealant that is available in caulking cartridges.
