Do Bed Bug Dogs Alert To Other Insects?

0

Our dogs only alert to Bed Bugs and not other insects. Bell Environmental’s canines are trained on live bed bugs and viable eggs. We frequently test our canines on other insects (including carpet (dermestid) beetles, lady bugs, and cockroaches) that are commonly found in residences and offices. The dogs are also tested against other scents to ensure that they do not alert to other types of odors– including dermestid beetles, human food, rodent scent etc. just to get fed. Our dogs do not alert to these bugs or other scents.

Our dogs have been trained to alert only to live Bed Bugs and their eggs, and not to other insects. As described above, we frequently use other insects and scents (including carpet (dermestid) beetles, lady bugs, cockroaches, food and rodent scent) as controls in our training, as they are commonly found in residences and offices. Our dogs do not alert to these bugs or other scents.
