Do autistic people cry easily?
As a person with Aspergers (and depression) trying to figure out what is the ‘correct’ emotional response (like for many people) can be problematic! Not sure who said people with autism are unemotional but they are clearly wrong – everybody is on a different place on the spectrum so will experience things differently but for me its as if I try to store things up until later – when there is less sensory clutter- in the hope I can figure what I should have instinctively felt, how I should reacted I was diagnosed with depression some time before Apsergers. When diagnosed there was in part a relief as there was not only a reason but some personal and sibling understanding of why I had problems coping with criticism/conflict/change. I’ve been fortunate enough to talk about the relationship between autism/aspie & depression/anxiety disorders with both health pro’s and volunteers at a local centre and find that I’m not beating myself up about things as much (or thinking I can read others mind
I cry when someone says something hurtful to me too. No you are not a cry baby just one of those wonderfully sensitive people (rare these days as most have built up a wall so thick and high that only a bulldozer can break it down.) Autistic people unemotional you prove how wrong that can be then. If we all judged each other we would all find something to pick at,as we are all totally imperfect. We should all only judge ourselves as we are no better than anyone else, and we have so much to improve about ourselves. I feel you have been criticised a lot,to the stage now where you believe it all, like i said none of us have the right to criticise anyone else. Would you like to be the kind of person who says things that would upset another person? Thank goodness you are not like that. They are the ones who should take a long hard look at themselves, think about it.
My son’s friend is autistic and sounds just like you. He is extremely sensitive and will show emotion a lot more easily the average person. Obviously some people are simply more sensitive than others but I believe that conditions like autism do play a part in personality types. Usually people with autism are at either end of the spectrum, either struggling to show emotion or showing extreme sensitivity. So, it may or may not be related to your autism but either way don’t worry about it as people who express their emotions more freely are said to have healthier hearts and live longer!
