Do Au Pairs Need to Speak the Language?
Host families for au pairs vary enormously in their requirements for an au pair to speak their language. Some do not mind only a basic understanding while others require fluent speakers. However, all families should understand that one of the principal reasons for an au pair coming to stay with a family is in order to learn, improve or perfect his/her foreign language skills.
