The whole reason for Le Verrier believing that there was another planet was due to perbutations in Mercury’s orbit. Einstein later proved through the rule of general relativity that these perbutations were caused by Mercury’s proximity to the sun and the sun’s gravity, not an inner planet. So no, astronomers do not believe that Vulcan exists. Some other astronomers claim to have found asteroids around where Le Verrier believe Vulcan orbited but searches have not proved anything conclusive. Apparently the idea of any asteroid larger than around 50 or 60km in diameter existing where Vulcan was believed to exist has been dismissed. I’m not sure of any other instances such as this were astronomers believed an astronomical body existed but was unsubstantiated. You have to remember Le Verrier died in 1877 and the telescopes that they used at the time were poor in comparison to modern scopes, which are extrememly precise.
