Do Asians jokingly imitate American speech in the same manner that Americans imitate Asian accents?
Here’s the deal: they imitate Americans speaking in Japanese. It’s the exact reverse of when you imitate Japanese people speaking English. I grew up in Japan, and have never heard anyone imitate Americans by saying “howdy”, or believe that the South is the average American way of living. Perhaps that was true in the 40’s and the 50’s, but certainly not today. The Hollywood movies and the global news media/internet have made it easier for everyone to see another country up-to-date. Certainly no (educated) American believes that there are Samurai still roaming in Japan today.
