Do any of the waterfalls freeze in the winter? Can animals walk on frozen rivers?
— Bailey, 4th grade, Pleasant Union Elementary, Wake Co. During our travels on Friday, we observed waterfalls which appeared to be mostly frozen. At the bottom of the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, spray from the waterfall had frozen into a huge ice mound. We saw a number of coyotes walking on the frozen Yellowstone River. We also found many animal tracks on the frozen river.
