Actually the jury is still out on what kind of damage anti psychotics can do. There are some studies that suggest they can cause your brain to add dopamine receptors, also serotonin receptors. There are also risks of developing tardive dyskinesia in addition to obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure. I do know with some of these side effects they can go away once the drug is stopped, i.e. high blood pressure, TD, weight gain. It is always a trade off. I read recently that with each psychotic episode you lose a bit of brain function, so what to do? I think it depends on how well one can function with or without the meds.
