For some people they work as advertised. For others they can be a nightmare and dangerous. The reason they are dolled out the way they are is because the pharmaceutical companies and the medical profession have made huge investments in the development and advertising of these and other drugs. You gotta get people to use them to make money. Anti anxiety medication which now includes anti depressants are the most prescribed medicines on a regular and ongoing basis. Without a diagnosis of a mental illness from a psychiatrist that recommends the trial of anti depressants under close supervision, no gp should be writing prescriptions for these very serious brain chemical altering drugs.
