Do Angelenos want to keep animals in captivity?
IT’S easy to see that humans are empathetic to elephants, and it’s even easier to see why. They are intelligent, social creatures. Well, the females are, at least; the males are less gregarious. Elephant babies aren’t terribly pretty, all wrinkly, chubby and uncoordinated with their enormous heads. Similar to human babies, come to think of it. But also like human infants, pachyderm babies more than make up for it with their cute baby antics, and we can’t help but bond with them and want to protect them. But enough with the great elephant question at the Los Angeles Zoo, the one that keeps rearing its head. Right now, the controversy is working its way through court after animal activists filed a lawsuit seeking to shut down construction of the Pachyderm Forest. We have serious problems in Los Angeles. People are losing their jobs, their livelihoods, their homes. Foreclosures are up. City government is losing tax revenues and raising taxes by calling them fees instead. Our infrastructur
