Do anacondas as shown in the film really exist?
Anacondas do exist, yes, but the film is riddled with inaccuracy. The snakes in the film are far too large, and move far too fast – in reality, the green anaconda can reach 10 metres in length and weigh 550lb (the yellow anaconda, a separate species, is much smaller), and is largely aquatic. On land they are too large to move fast – you could easily outdistance one walking, never mind running. The snakes in the film are also shown eating people, swallowing them whilst they are still alive and doing so in about a minute. In reality, even the largest snakes in the world cannot swallow a normally-sized adult human – the width of our shoulders makes it impossible (though there are records of reticulated pythons, which reach the same length as anacondas but are much lighter, eating children and even very small adults). Snakes never begin swallowing until certain their prey is dead – if it was still alive it could struggle and injure the snake – and it takes them well over an hour to swallow
