According to data from May 2008, the media salary for an aerospace engineer was $92,500 as opposed to a mechanical engineer, which was $74,920.

However, the National Association of Colleges and Employers posted a July 2009 survey that gathered data on the average starting salary for an engineer with a bachelor’s degree and found that the starting salary for a mechanical engineer was $58,776 and an aerospace engineer was $56,311.

So it appears that mechanical engineers may start off with a higher salary, but the limited field and advancement opportunities for aerospace may account for the higher salaries they seem to make for the longterm.
