Do Americans need to tone down our political rhetoric?

I can only base my opinions on what I have read on Answerbag, but it seems to me that they need to learn to speak to people with different political views to their own a lot more politely than most currently do – and that applies to supporters of both parties. Surely reasoned and reasonable debate is more valuable than incessant name-calling and rabble-rousing.

Americans need to learn to think for themselves and not give their identy so freely to political parties. I am amazed by how many people, especially young people, dedicate their minds to political ideologies in this country. It is as if nobody thinks for themselves, but just reads their party’s talking points for the day then goes marching to the trenches. It is very sad and is going to lead to this nation consuming itself.
