It probably will not work. Apple recently released OS 3.1.3. New phones come upgraded to OS 3.1.3. There is no unlock solution for most phones that have been upgraded. Moreover, in order to unlock, you will need a sim card from the original carrier. You can’t get one of those because you’re not eligible for an AT&T contract. Even if you buy a phone already jailbroken and unlocked, it’s unlikely that you would be able to keep the phone unlocked. You’d be left with a very expensive phone locked to AT&T. Either spend the money on a UK iPhone or get a (very, very expensive) factory unlocked iPhone from the continent.
