Do Amalgam Filling contain mercury?
Amalgams contain a trace amount of mercury to allow for the chemical reaction to harden the filling, but it is nothing to be concerned about. Honestly the only difference is the aesthetics between amalgam and composite fillings. Amalgam fillings usually last longer, but most people don’t like the look of them. If your dentist is more comfortable with the amalgam material, I wouldn’t worry. It’s better than getting a bad composite filling that will result in a more expensive crown later on.
