Do alligator snapping turtles hibernate?
All turtles are ectothermic, meaning they rely upon heat from an outside source. The alligator snapping turtle lives primarily in the Southern United States where the water temperature often remains warm enough for them to be active all year long. Parts of their range extend to cooler states where they will become dormant for parts of the winter.
