Do all of the judges have to travel to Phoenix for training?
The answer to this question is yes and no. (Except for the Northern area, all coaches and teams have known about the Phoenix training requirement since this summer.) We have judges coming from all over the region and it is important that they have the chance to “gel” together as a region before the tournament. In addition to the need to “gel” we also have a logistics problem with multiple trainings. If I do training in Flagstaff, I will also need to do one in Yuma. Because all judges must be trained the same in the same region, that would require the Problem Captains to facilitate three trainings on three consecutive weekends in three different cities. With the spontaneous workshops, pre-tournament board meetings and the registration deadline in mid-January, there aren’t enough weekends before the tournament to make that happen. The big exception to this rule is that Spontaneous judges do not work in the same type of judging teams that the long term problem judges do so it is possible
