Do all healthcare suppliers and all divisions of the large global companies already have their GLNs assigned?
A. No, some do and some do not. As a rule, probably the larger companies that sell to customers in other industries do, and the smaller healthcare-only suppliers do not. Suppliers will work directly with GS1 US, the same organization that supports the Universal Product Code (U.P.C.), to get their Global Location Numbers (GLNs) assigned. Suppliers that do not have GLNs will have to pay a fee to obtain their numbers either by joining GS1 US as a member or by subscribing to a GLN on an annual basis.
