Do all deaf people know sign language?
No. Some deaf people attended oral schools and learn to read lips and communicate with spoken English. This however, is very difficult to do and not many people can fully communicate with lip reading alone. Many deaf people use Signed Exact English or another variant of sign language, which are different from ASL. Some deaf people use cued speech, a method which uses hand shapes in different positions to help enhance lip reading. There is also a total communication method in which one talks and signs at the same time.
