Do all customers qualify for DSL service?
In addition to having DSL available in their central office, customers must be less than 17,500 feet from their central office or live in a neighborhood where a DSL Gateway has been installed. Please note that the measurement from the central office to the customer premise is the length of the telephone line facility, not street miles or air miles. Additionally, they must have a telephone line qualified to carry the DSL signal.
A. In addition to having DSL available in your telephone company’s central office (CO), you must be less than 12,000 feet (or just over two miles) from the CO to qualify for DSL service. Eventually, the evolution of network technology will allow us to reach customers who are on the most distant ends of our local networks.
Availability of DSL service depends on 4 key things. Firstly, your telephone exchange should have DSL service. Secondly your phone service is through copper (not wireless etc). Thirdly, you are within 5 cable kilometers from the STC exchange (note that the measurement from the exchange to the User premise is the length of the phone line, not street miles or air miles(. Finally the line quality meets Industry standards required for the DSL service. The first 2 of these factors can be checked via STC website at www.stc.com.sa STC will verify the remaining 2 on the receipt of your application.
