Do all countries hold an Olympic Trials meet similar to the one in the U.S.?
Not necessarily. Many other countries pick their Olympians based on the athletes’ best performances in official competitions anywhere in the world. These athletes are selected on the basis of their best races in the year or two before the Olympics. This is quite different from the U.S. system, which picks the three best athletes on one given day when anything can happen… and sometimes does.
