Do all churches need an audit committee?
There is no prescription in the New Testament for God’s church to have an audit committee. However, there are merits. Having a good testimony before others and having witnesses over acts of treasury conveys assurance to the church body. Also, the principle of good stewardship is accountability and therefore it is a reasonable act for groups of Christians to establish some form of checks and balances, not just oversight. In that regard I believe the Audit Committee can fulfill part of that accountability. A bible verse that illustrates this principle is found is in Proverbs 18:17. NASB “The first to plead his case seems just, until another comes and examines him”.
