All children’s products (as defined by the CPSIA – children 12 and under) subject to the lead limit of the ACT will eventually require testing for lead. Children’s products that are painted, or have surface coatings are also subject to the lead paint limit, in addition to the lead content limits. All children’s product ( as defined by CPSIA ) is subject to both the ban on Lead in Paint and the Total Lead ( by part ) provisions. The Lead in Paint ban is specific to surface coatings and cannot exceed 90ppm. The Total Lead limit provision refers to the total amount of lead contained in the actual substrate material and cannot exceed 600ppm as of Feb, 10th. 2009 and then 300ppm by August 14th, 2009.
