Do all articles have to use the DSM-IV system?
No. The most important issue is that a published and standardized diagnostic approach be incorporated where appropriate. Therefore, some articles are likely to refer to DSM-III-R, and others might use the ICD-10. Whenever possible, however, it would be beneficial if the author(s) briefly discussed how the results might have been affected by a DSM-IV approach, although this is not required. How long does the review process at JSAD take? It is important to us that authors can feel confident that their work will be reviewed quickly. Therefore, each paper receives a quick reading at the time of submission, and about 10% of authors hear within a week or so of submission. These answers usually indicate that the paper is not quite appropriate for us and that the author(s) might turn elsewhere. In this instance, very little time has passed, and the author has the chance to quickly submit the manuscript elsewhere.
