Do Air Source Heat Pumps really work?
Yes, the technology is very straight forward – they simply move energy from the outside air and convert it in to energy (heat) that is fed in to the house. An ordinary fridge works on the same basic principle, but in reverse. For example; if you buy some white wine and take it home and put it in the fridge, it starts out at room temperature and gradually the fridge lowers the temperature of the wine ready for drinking (if you can wait….). During this process the heat is extracted from the wine by the heat flowing out of the wine to the lower temperature surrounding it in the fridge. The fridge then compresses the heat extracted and expels it out of the back of the fridge – you will be able to feel the heat being radiated from the refrigerant loop at the rear of the fridge.
