Do aerosol products such as sunscreen cause global warming?
This is a tough one! It’s actually impossible to say for certain at this point. Aerosol products sometimes contain compounds called chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs. The ozone layer is a layer of gas in Earth’s atmosphere that contains a relatively large amount of ozone. This layer helps absorb harmful ultraviolet rays that are produced by the sun. It has been found that CFCs can make their way into the upper atmosphere, and, from there, start to break down ozone molecules. Fewer ozone molecules means a thinner ozone layer which means more ultraviolet light can reach earth. As far as global warming is concerned, ultraviolet light doesn’t really heat up the Earth any. However, many global warming experts believe that global warming is largely caused by greenhouse gases. These are simply gases, such as CO2, which essentially help “trap” heat from the sun in Earth’s atmosphere. The sun bombards Earth with tons and tons of energy every second, and the Earth needs to release some of it back int
